No Such Luck eBook Caitlin McKenna
I thoroughly enjoyed No Such Luck. The lovable main character, Riley, is flawed but funny, thanks to her self-deprecating inner thoughts as she reluctantly looks for love with an arsenal of deep insecurities and a powerful sense of being cursed. I completely related to her and laughed out loud at many of her cringe-worthy encounters with some epic bad dates. The story unfolds with wonderful twists that kept me reading until the last terrific page. Having spent over ten years in Boston, I loved how the author had done some serious research to capture what makes it such a magical city. I've been feeling burned out from watching all the news lately, and I was surprised how this "charming" story offered an uplifting affirmation that I really enjoyed escaping into every night. I'm a HUGE fan of Caitlin McKenna, and this latest book is another hit that I think someone in Hollywood should snap up and make into a Rom-Com feature film! Can't wait for her next book!Product details

No Such Luck eBook Caitlin McKenna Reviews
Delightful!! Really funny and smart, and not really predictable, which was a welcome surprise for a chick lit. When you think you have it all figured out, there's something else happening, and it doesn't end out of the blue, which made it a really well developed story in my opinion. Caitlin McKenna is a great writer and I expected great fun already, but even so, I was pleasantly surprised by it being even better than anticipated. Totally recommend it!!
I received a free e-copy of this book with my nomination in the Scout program when it was selected for publication. Kitbah was something else scaring folks in Scotland at the pub. She kind of scared me too. When all of Riley's dates, Chaz, Jeremy, Rand, Eddie met with terrible accidents, was Riley cursed or were these guys purposely moved out of her life. Absolutely love Derek. I really enjoyed the book and characters, Riley, Derek, Carmen, Brian and Kitbah.
No Such Luck by Caitlin McKenna is a light hearted enjoyable read. The story centers around Riley, who is a 20-something Bostonian. After being dumped by her long term boyfriend, Riley takes a 10-day vacation Scotland. While there, she meets a strange Caribbean woman who puts a curse on her. After returning home, and experiencing several really bad dates, Riley sees the Carribean woman again - in Boston. The rest of the story is Riley trying to put an end to the curse with much comediac effect. I received a digital copy of this book from Scout.
It's always fun to read about about places you know. I live in within a couple hours of Boston, so many of the places named are familiar to me and brought back my own memories. This is a funny, sweet story. I was glad I didn't have to read any embarrassing sex scenes. In a way predictable, since romance novels follow a pattern... boy gets girl... ) But it had a unique twist with the Scotland witch, so it wasn't all just about the romance. An enjoyable story I think even other non-romance readers like me will enjoy.
I received this book as part of the Scout program.
Oh my this was a truly hilarious read. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. There were so many times that I just laughed out loud that I'm sure people thought I was bonkers. It was well worth the time to read.
This story is not one I would usually read but when I read the introduction to it in Scout, I was hooked. This is a fun-loving, light-hearted story with a few suspenseful twists and turns that compelled me to keep reading. I actually had tears in my eyes at the somewhat traumatic climax. Glad to say the story had a happy ending.
Not normally a genre I approach in my reading, I was delighted with what I got out of No Such Luck being one of my Scout selections. McKenna is a talented writer whose prose and plot are effective in telling a story about Riley, a young woman who is cursed during a vacation that has gone awry. She spends the novel concocting various ways to get out of it, but she finds herself in more and more hilarious trouble the harder she tries. My favorite part of this book was the fact that it took place in Boston - where I grew up - and the stage McKenna set for me definitely bridged the gap between my reluctance to pick up stories like this and her wonderfully lighthearted tale about a cursed young woman trying to find some semblance of happiness. A great example of a Scout selection that nails it!
